KEEPING CANCER PATIENTS CONNECTED TO THEIR HEALTHCARE TEAM using telemedicine
Connect to Care was created in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic with the intention of limiting cancer patients’ exposure to the coronavirus by allowing them to access their healthcare team through telemedicine rather than having to go to the office.
what is telemedicine?
Telemedicine is the use of technology that allows a patient to have medical appointments with their healthcare team without having to go to their office. Connection through video conferencing allows for face-to-face appointments from the safety of your own home.
Telemedicine uses technology that allows your healthcare team to “see” you when you have a medical problem that needs to be managed. For example, it may be used for check-ups between treatments, discussing a new symptom, managing medications, talking to a nutrition consultant, or for mental health counseling.
Cancer treatment can cause patients to become immunocompromised, making them more vulnerable to COVID-19. While every patient is different and should check with their healthcare team about their specific risk, cancer patients should stay home whenever possible. This is where the Respite Retreats - Connect to Care program can help. Offering cancer patients, who don’t otherwise have access to telemedicine, the opportunity to participate by providing them a new tablet to connect with their healthcare team.
Eligible patients must be within one year of active treatment, have internet access, and have no other devices available to them to participate in telemedicine.
